  • A Day Without A Woman 8 rsvps

    Wednesday, March 08, 2017 at 12:00 AM through March 09, 2017
    A Day Without A Woman

Thanks to the Women's March we will participate in A Day Without A Woman.  Read about it from their website:

On International Women's Day, March 8th, women and our allies will act together for equity, justice and the human rights of women and all gender-oppressed people, through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity.

In the same spirit of love and liberation that inspired the Women's March, we join together in making March 8th A Day Without a Woman, recognizing the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system--while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity. We recognize that trans and gender nonconforming people face heightened levels of discrimination, social oppression and political targeting. We believe in gender justice.

Anyone, anywhere, can join by making March 8th A Day Without a Woman, in one or all of the following ways:

    1. Women take the day off, from paid and unpaid labor

    2. Avoid shopping for one day (with exceptions for small, women- and minority-owned businesses).

    3. Wear RED in solidarity with A Day Without A Woman

    Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM

Join Women Will at the March for Science April 22, 2017 at 10 am

Women Will stands firm in their support of rigorous scientific research that supports the health and welfare of women and their families.  Cutting funding to science and making decisions that will impact our health and welfare without the support of rigorous science is reckless and directly injures the most vulnerable populations.

Join us!  If you register we will send you an email with a meeting place so we can march together.  Stay tuned for a sign-making party where we will share our goals and get our science on!

March for Science - San Diego

March for Science - San Diego is an adamantly nonpartisan group of scientists, engineers, students, teachers, and science enthusiasts, united by our awe of the universe, and grounded by appreciation for science in our everyday lives. We are organizing a family-friendly, educational event to build awareness for the importance of science in society, and to highlight the San Diego region’s leadership in the sciences. As we march on April 22, we will be standing for our community, health, economy and our region’s future.

The March for Science of San Diego stands for public policy that both supports, and is supported by, openly shared science.

    Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 05:00 PM
    Trish's Home

We’re excited about the opportunity with Swing Left to work on flipping some of the seats in the House.  There’s a special House election on May 25th to replace Republican Ryan Zinke, who became secretary of the interior in the Trump administration. Democrat Rob Quist has an incredible chance to win this special election, but it’s going to come down to the wire. Republicans are pouring money into this race.  We are holding a Resist with Quist House Party to make calls to Montana voters to help make sure people cast their ballots.

What: Resist with Quist House Party

When: Wednesday, May 17th from 5-8 PM.

Link: Sign up to make calls here – You’ll need to bring your laptop and headphones. (*Sign up soon as registration is limited to 15 people so we can keep from taxing the internet connection - we will all call at the same time.  Feel free to create your own calling party here!  It’s easy and please let us know how it goes!)

  • Die-in Action to Resist the Repeal of the Affordable Care Act

    Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 12:00 PM

A die-in is a form of nonviolent direct action protest where participants publicly pretend to die to highlight a deadly problem.  With the House passing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) repeal bill in the House by a vote of 217-213 they have decided to harm the poor, children, women and families, persons with disabilities, and even people with employer-provided coverage.

    Women will be hard hit:

+ blocks patients from accessing care at Planned Parenthood,

+ guts coverage requirements for maternity care,

+ puts even more restrictions on coverage for abortion care.

+ makes it harder for women to access the care they need, whether they seek to prevent or terminate a pregnancy, to have a healthy pregnancy, or to raise a healthy family.

+ is a roll back of the strides the ACA made toward eliminating discrimination against women seeking health care.

Our Members of Congress need to be accountable for every one of the provisions in this bill that is a disaster for women.  Our die-in will focus on Women's Health and will take place in May 2017 with details forthcoming.

  • SDUSD School Board Meeting: Support Anti-Islamophobia

    Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 04:45 PM
Eugene Brucker Education Center Auditorium in San Diego, CA

What:  Speak in support of Anti-Islamophobia program at SDUSD schools.

    When: Today, July 11, 2017 @ 4:45 PM

    • July 2016 SDUSD School Board voted unanimously to direct staff draft to plan addressing Islamophobia and bullying of Muslim students in the district. Stan Anjan is the executive director of SDUSD’s Family and Community Engagement who worked with the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) to create a program to prevent bullying of Muslim students.  The program was in part a response to a study that showed 55% of Muslim students in California reported having been bullied-much higher than the national average.
    • In April 2017 the Washington Times, Fox News, the Truth Revolt, the Free Republic, and Breitbart picked up the story and complained that the move by the district was (in a nut shell) anti-American and pro-terror.  Brietbart called CAIR a terrorist organization.
    • May 2017 SDUSD the School Board approved the roll-out of proactive measures to address bullying of Muslim students to be fully implemented this coming fall. (
    • Since then, Islamophobe parents have come to board meetings speaking publically to condemn the anti-bullying policy claiming that SDUSD students are being taught Islam and that means their religion should also be taught in school (All Board meetings are filmed and you can find their hateful statements on YouTube.)
    • In late May 2017 a legal group and 6 parents sued the District claiming that the district policy is a violation of the separation of church and state, because the plan included teaching additional lessons about Islam to students. (FYI, schools are allowed, by the 1st Amendment to teach about religion which is different from teaching religion.)
    • The District has responded that the anti-bullying plan is intended to provide equal protection to Muslim students.

Carpool and/or meet outside of the Tuesday, July 11, 2017 @4:50 p.m. sharp. (Eugene Brucker Education Center Auditorium, 4100 Normal Street, San Diego, CA 92103).. We’ll grab a public testimony form each of us before the meeting starts, fill out our forms, give them to the officer, enter the auditorium, and sit near the front left. At 5:00 p.m. Public Testimony (Up to 30 minutes total at beginning of meeting) begins. Speakers are requested to limit their remarks to no more than 3 minutes. Sometimes they limit it to 1 minute if there are a lot of people speaking. The lights flash when your time is up and you can finish your sentence and sit down.

Here are few possible talking points if you can join us:

My name is ______________ and I am a parent in the San Diego Unified School District.  I believe that in the current national political and social climate that it makes sense to help educate children about Islam to reduce stereotyping and prejudice.

I support the current district efforts to reduce fear and misinformation about Islam and Muslim students.  I believe that my children and all children will benefit from learning more about Islam.

I want my children to make friends with children of all faiths.  I am concerned that there are parents who have spoken out with misinformation about the Muslim faith.  The Muslim faith is a peace-promoting faith that should not be defined by extremists just like any faith or group should not be defined by extremist factions.

I want to thank the School Board for approving of the policy to increase the knowledge-base of all of our children in the district to combat Islamophobia.  Given the current misinformation and fear shown by a small group of parents, it is clear that this program is much needed in our communities.

Thank you for promoting the anti-bullying of Muslim students.  Thank you for attempting to give equal protection to a group that is under attack in our country.  I want my children to have the opportunity to understand the beliefs and traditions of all faiths and the Muslim faith is particularly misunderstood and mischaracterized.  It is un-American to create a school-system that ignores the needs of special populations of students. I laud the Board’s foresight to proactively reduce prejudice through this program.

    Proven Effective

In multiple randomized trials, voters who received a letter were significantly more likely to vote.
